And now without further hesitation from me, here is the scene. I hope you enjoy!
“Come on Jenna please!” Amy whined on the other end of the phone. I let out a sigh of exasperation and shook my head. Some things never changed.
“I can’t Amy you know that. I have so much studying to do. There’s a huge test next week and I’m not near ready for it. We’ll go out some other time. Promise.”
“Jeennnaa,” I cringed. More whining. “You never want to do anything fun. All you do is study! I just want you to come dancing! You don’t even have to stay that long! Just a couple of hours.”
I rolled my eyes, “I can’t Amy. I need to study. I promise you I will come out after this big test alright? Please I need to go. There’s a lot of stuff I have to get done. I’ll talk to you tomorrow alright?”
Amy sighed dramatically into the phone, “Alright alright Jenna I’ll leave you alone. But I’m going to hold you to your promise!” She bid be a quick farewell and hung up.
With a smile I turned back to my homework. I had a long night ahead of me.

I was having the most pleasant dream when my consciousness started tugging at me. With a sigh I rolled over and got comfortable again. I just need ten more minutes of sleep. My alarm hadn’t even gone off yet….yet something seemed off. I frowned. The sunlight was too bright for six thirty. What time was it? I opened my eyes slightly and glanced at the alarm clock.
“Shoot!” I shouted as I bolted up in bed. I was running late. Again.
“Stupid late night homework session,” I grumbled rubbing my eyes. After crawling into bed the night before I had completely forgotten to set my alarm clock.
I hastily changed from my pajamas into the clothes I had laid out the night before: a cozy sweater and jeans. And in a dizzying pace I pulled my unruly hair into a ponytail and slipped my shoes on. I brushed my teeth in record time and was out the door within twenty minutes. I didn’t have time for breakfast this morning but promised my protesting stomach that I would eat a large lunch.
In a flash I was running full speed towards campus, praying that I wouldn’t trip over something. It was never a guarantee though, especially with my coordination, or lack thereof. But I had to run. It was a ten minute walk to campus and I had about fifteen minutes to get there and be on time. And I couldn’t afford to be late again, so sprinting was a must. My professor stressed the importance of being on time. And I had been lucky to get into this English class.
By the time I made it to campus I was panting tiredly. Thankfully there weren’t too many people walking towards class so I had a straighter shot of making it to my classroom. I had five minutes to make it and be on time…
“Come…on Jenna…you… can… do this,” I chanted, panting heavily. It didn’t help that I had backpack that weighed a ton on my back. “Just keep going…”
And then things happened so fast.
I was so busy concentrating on keeping track of how much time I had left that I didn’t really pay attention to the obstacles in front of me. I slammed full force into a very solid person. I didn’t even have time to block the collision. We both went crashing to the ground, my heavy backpack pulling me beneath the stranger. I heard a loud crack as my head collided with the cold concrete. Pain erupted and stars appeared. I shut my eyes to block the pain.
“Ooow,” I groaned trying to move, but I was successfully pinned to the ground.
“I could say the same,” A deeply annoyed man’s voice remarked. “Do you make a habit of running unsuspecting people down each morning?”
I opened my eyes to look at the person I had collided with. His blonde hair was styled in an untidy fashion and his emerald eyes were glaring down on me, a deep scowl tugged at his lips. He was rather handsome I had to admit; A bit rude, but handsome.
“Sorry,” I murmured squinting at him. The throbbing in my head was terrible. “I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. I apologize.”
“A lot of good that’ll do,” He retorted heaving himself to his feet, “I’ve already been trampled by you and now I’m running extremely late. Thank you for making my day start off so well.”
I slowly rose to my feet, wincing as I touched the tender spot on my head. He didn’t bother to help me.
“Listen I said I was sorry. It was an accident. I didn’t mean to run into you. I was just trying to get to class.” I glared at him. How absolutely rude he was!
“Perhaps next time you should be more organized.”
“Ugh! Just-Just forget it alright! I’ll try to remember to stay out of your way from now on!” I gave up trying to talk to the man, and hefted the strap of my backpack back on my shoulder and trying to hurry past the man. Now I was even more late, and my head was already starting to kill me.
But I didn’t get too far. The blow to my head caused my vision to swim momentarily and I stumbled, dropping my backpack. I stood still and closed my eyes momentarily, the throbbing in my head increasing.
“Ouch,” I whined, touching my head again. The pounding increased from the contact with my hand, “This is just not my day”
“Hey!” The man I had collided with called after me. “Wait up!”
I chose to ignore him and continued to walk towards my classroom. I had no hope of making it on time, but I still needed to get to class at some point!
He grabbed my elbow. “Hey,” He said in a kinder tone, “Are you alright? Did you hit your head back there?”
“I’m fine,” I retorted icily, yanking my elbow from his grasp. “And why would it matter anyway? After all I ruined your morning. What would you care about me?”
I tried to move away from him, but he maneuvered his body in front of me. I huffed in annoyance and glared at him.
“Listen, I…I just…” He was fumbling for words now, his eyes scrunched in concentration. He let out an agitated sigh and ran his hand through is unruly hair, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have snapped at you like that. It’s-It’s just been a stressful morning. It really wasn’t your fault.” He shuffled his feet awkwardly and peered at me through his thick lashes, “So can we call a truce? I do feel terrible about my comments a moment ago.”
The look of chagrin on his face was so funny and endearing that I caved. He genuinely seemed apologetic. I let out a sigh and closed my eyes in resignation. “It’s alright,” I remarked with a wave of my hand, “We both seem to be struggling today. I am sorry that I knocked you down however..” I gave the man a half-hearted smile to show that I really meant what I was saying. He gave me a tentative smile in return.
“Well I suppose since that introductions are in order now?” I quirked an eyebrow at him, his grin widened, “My name is Adam,” He extended his hand to me, “And you are?”
I was momentarily caught off guard by his friendly attitude, “Uh, Jenna. My name is Jenna. Nice to meet you.” I grabbed his hand and shoot it hesitantly.
“Well, Jenna, do you mind if I were to make this morning up to you? Perhaps we could start lunch early?” I stared at him incredulously. Was he serious? This man had more twists to him than a roller coaster.
He must have noticed my expression because he began to fumble over words again “That is, uh I mean only if you want to. I just figured that since we are both already so late for class that taking a break from them might do us some good. What do you say?” He had his brow knit in concentration. It seemed as though he had been searching for the perfect thing to say in order to ensure my acceptance to his request. Clearly he over analyzes situations.
I must have been silent for several moments, because it was Adam’s turn to raise an questioning eyebrow at me, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. My eyes widened in realization.
I was staring at him. A furiously bright blush erupted on my cheeks
“Oh, uh, I suppose that would be alright,” I murmured, averting my eyes. No need to continue to stare at the poor stranger! How humiliating.
